Regifting is magical

Updated: Dec 3, 2021

Contrary to Jerry Seinfeld, et al, in The Label Maker (ca. 1995), there is absolutely nothing wrong with a little regifting here and there. Over Thanksgiving weekend, Kid 2 and KIL 2 presented our "new" cat with his very own - regifted - Advent calendar.

The cat -- a very solid and beautiful white stray who mostly eats and sleeps indoors all day and insists on prowling the neighborhood at night -- hasn't yet realized what treats await him inside the tiny stocking pockets of the calendar.

According to Kid 2, each tiny gift was carefully chosen from their own cats' toy box and she reassured us that their cats will not miss any of the items.

So those items are only half of the regifted gift. The other half is the calendar itself, which I apparently made about 10 years ago. In one of my moments of sewing creativity, I made one of these calendars for each daughter. Each consists of 25 tiny stockings sewn onto a large rectangular piece of red felt and the stockings are stuffed with tiny new surprises each year.

So this year, Charley the cat is the beneficiary of the calendar. I couldn't wait until December 1, so I might have peeked into some (maybe most) of the stockings. I suspect he'll love the little bells and feathers. This is regifting at its best, right? Creating more magic of a well-loved Christmas

tradition to entertain another person (er...cat.)
